Charlotte Brownlee is the producer of 'Bury Your Gays'. "Our film exposes a trope that’s been hiding in plain sight, shedding light on the fact that LGBTQ+ storytelling still has a long way to go" Charlotte Brownlee is an award-winning short film producer. Her latest short film 'Travel Socks' has won six Best Film accolades, including at the British Short Film Awards. She has over a decade’s experience working in high end film and TV assisting producers and working in the script supervising department on projects such as 'The Crown', 'The Flash', 'Star Wars EP VIII' and 'Spiderman: Far From Home'. Her latest role was working for three years with the Showrunners on Amazon’s 'Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power'. Charlotte Cooper is the director/writer of Bury Your Gays. “I wrote this script as a direct response to the industry’s fixation with doomed, sad and tragic gays”. Charlotte, an LGBTQ+ filmmaker, began her career working in film and TV production but yearned to be on set. With the help of Screen Skills, she transitioned to script supervising – a role that sees you become the director’s closest ally. Charlotte has been lucky enough to work on some of UK’s biggest films such as ‘Barbie’ and ‘Doctor Strange 2’, with some of the industry’s most esteemed directors, including Sam Raimi and Greta Gerwig. As a Script Supervisor, Charlotte has worked across many genres and many budgets. Having learnt so much from many directors, Charlotte knows her style and the stories she wants to tell. We are so thrilled that the script for 'Bury Your Gays' won the first ever @shorescripts OutHere LGBTQ+ screenwriting contest! 🎉👏🏳️‍🌈 The contest was created in response to the need for greater participation and representation of the LGBTQ+ community in screenwriting and the wider entertainment industry. According to the GLAAD TV report for 2022-2023, there was a 1.3% decrease of LGBQT+ characters on scripted prime time American TV. The goal of the contest was to champion queer characters and stories... which is our film's mission, too! A big congratulations to @coops_charlotte for her brilliant, hilarious and important script. Hello from the Charlottes! The team behind ‘Bury Your Gays’ are writer and director Charlotte Cooper and producer Charlotte Brownlee. Cooper wrote her award-winning script in 2023, and brought Brownlee on to produce the project in Jan 2024.
